About Kwathu Ndi Kwanu

Established in 2020, Kwathu Ndi Kwanu is an organization dedicated to women’s rights. Founded by a Malawian young woman who experienced gender-based violence and offered to use her knowledge and resources for the rehabilitation and empowerment of gender-based violence survivors in both refugee and host communities of Malawi.

Kwathu Ndi Kwanu means “My Home is Your Home’’ in Malawi’s local language Chichewa, which emphasizes our dedication to creating a safe space for survivors. We are a non-profit organization that exists to economically empower young women and refugee women that are survivors of Gender Based Violence. This is achieved through providing capacity building, training and knowledge they need to build and sustain their livelihoods, financial and digital literacy.

We aim to enhance the capacity of young women by providing market linkages for hand-made craft and cultural products. Our beneficiaries use indigenous materials and techniques to create home décor items, accessories, jewelry, bags, hats, trays and much more.

Vision

We wish to see Malawi become a model country in which gender-based violence victims and survivors have full access to justice, rights and empowerment for self-reliance.

Mission

We aim to create a safe space where gender-based violence victims and survivors are supported, accepted and freely participate in public affairs.
